About the Rabid Bulldog

Last updated by syn on 2005-08-15

Who?

This site is the brainchild of Tim MacNeil and Chris McCain, but most of the content is posted by our staff, which mainly consists of our friends. The discussions about articles (made available in the form of comments) are mostly done by the same people who write articles, but are open to anyone who stumbles upon the site.

What?

The Rabid Bulldog is a community-based website with a variety of content. This includes, but is not limited to, rants, reviews, top ten lists, political discussions, local events, polls, and news. Once anything is posted, it becomes a free target for discussion in the comments, which last until the we stray so far from the original subject that no semblance of coherence can be seen, or someone kills it through random interjections.

When?

The site was officially launched late in March of 2004 with the first post, We've launched.

Why?

There were three driving reasons for the Rabid Bulldog's creation:

  1. To allow syn to work on a framework for creating dynamic-content websites (twitch).
  2. To post our random thoughts online, and generally have fun with our friends.
  3. To make use of the extra hardware lying around.

Where?

The Rabid Bulldog is hosted out of a five-person flat in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, World, Milky Way, Universe and almost exclusively frequented by students living in the same area who attend a certain university.

How?

The Rabid Bulldog's original server, froth, died during transportation, but a new server was graciously donated. frothII is a second hand Dell Dimension XPS D266, slightly modified. The operating system running it is Slackware GNU/Linux, running the Apache webserver and using the PHP hypertext preprocessor and SQLite database to create the dynamic content. This is all managed by a set of scripts and libraries written by Tim MacNeil collectively called twitch.
